What does it take to transition a posture from the surviving, hard to sustain, wish-I-was-anywhere-else list to the fully energized, battery-charging, vitality-raising list? Asana (posture) is traditionally defined as a comfortable seat, or a position that is firm, but relaxed. Yet so often when a posture is assumed, it begins to strain the body in record timing. What this creates in the body is stress, usually in areas that start nagging us over time. This indicates that even when we can hold the pose for the length of time asked of us, we are creating a strain on the body that will evolve into a larger concern if it goes unchecked.
Creating a healthy, integrated, balanced body that functions at its optimal level is an achievable goal through the proper practice of posture. Energizing poses so that core is engaged, breathing is even, and the weight and work of the pose is balanced in the body will do this!
